Kathy Lynn Newell

Kathy Lynn (Smith) Newell was born to Carolyn B. Smith and Noyed E. Smith in Oakland California, October 3, 1958.  She found the lord at a young age and was baptized at the Beacon Hill Church of God In Christ in 1969 and later renewed her worship at the Greater Gospel Temple in Skyway where she resided.  

Kathy attended Columbia and Brighton Elementary, Sharpless Jr. High and Renton High Schools before beginning work with the Seattle Youth Work Training Program, where she learned various skills. She worked in daycare showing love for others and was a Housing Manager helping low income and seniors establish housing.  Her passion to help others was priceless. She continued to work in the Seattle area including having her own janitorial business from 2010 to 2024.

Kathy gave birth to her daughter, April Hampton and son Dwight Newell after joining in marriage to Tony Newell.  Kathy loved attending her grandsons Rainier Ravens games and watching her granddaughters cheerlead or play soccer.  Kathy was life’s cheerleader! Wherever there was a bench to support her family, she was there; graduations, weddings, birthdays, cook-outs and even memorials.   

Kathy enjoyed spending time with family, friends, cooking, puzzles and walking her fur-baby Goldie.  When you called her, Kathy was ready to help with whatever she could, cleaning, moving, or organizing…no questions asked.  Kathy was the collector of anybody that needed help, having no problem taking them in to feed, nurture and make sure everyone was warm.

Kathy Newell is preceded by her mother Carolyn Barnes Smith and leaves to cherish her memories; Father Noyed E. Smith, daughter; April (Hampton) Lewis (husband Vorian Lewis precedes), son; Dwight Newell, Sisters; Sharon King (Lonnie Smith), and Donna Marshall. Grandchildren; Bertran Lewis, Vorian Lewis Jr, Niema Lewis, Voriona Lewis, Iyana Thomas, Makenna Newell and 5 beautiful great-grandchildren. Nephews Anthony Smith, Rodney Marshall and Nieces; Jessie Gordon and Angela Gordon and a host of great nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

Memorial service and repass will be held at Greater Gospel Temple at 1:00 pm. Visitation is at noon.
