In Loving Memory of Robert Powell  who transitioned on November 15, 2015. Robert was born

June 23, 1952 in Orange, Texas, to Lessie Powell Sauls. He was married to Shelia Sheppard Powell

for 43 years. He grew up in Borger, Texas and attended an all black elementary school,  Booker T.

Washington and graduated from Borger High School in 1970.  Robert worked and retired from JM Huber

Corporation as a Chemist Lab Technician.

 

His philanthropic endeavors included co-founding Operation Outreach in Borger, Texas.

Operation Outreach helped the community & mentored  young black male youth in Borger.

The organization also supported many different activities such as an annual fishing trip with the

youth in the community. He had a passion for helping others in his community.

Robert had a love for sports, and was a true Dallas Cowboy’s fan, win or lose. Not only did

he play football,  he coached many youth in Little League Football. Robert was an avid softball

player, and coached his girls and many of their friends from T-Ball through Co-Ed League.

His love for music, inspired him as the lead guitar player in his band which lead to many mornings

playing his favorite songs. Bass Fishing was his favorite pastime, and he loved spending many days

out in his boat on the water.  He was multitalented, knowledgeable and involved in other endeavors

including restoring  a historic church in Borger. He was a bowler and a great Barbecue Pit Master.

 

He is preceded in death by his mother, Lessie Powell Sauls & Stepfather, George Sauls.

 

He is survived by his wife, Shelia Sheppard Powell of Kent,Washington;  his daughters Kimberly Powell

of Kent, Washington, Robin Powell of Kent, Washington, Virginia Shelby Powell- Helle, Dustin Dean Helle & Granddog Ada

of Kent, Washington; Aunt Irene Baker of Santa Ana, California; Sisters, Georgia Sauls-Hughes, of Borger, Texas;

Edith & Rodger Hughes of Houston, Texas; Brother, Winston & Stella Sauls of Borger, Texas;

Nephew, Steven & Shanesa Hughes of Amarillo, Texas; Nieces, Stephanie Hughes,of Borger Texas, Margaret Sauls of Dallas, Texas,

Tenorra Hughes of Houston, Texas, Marilyn Sauls of New Orleans, LA,

Melanie & Mark Johnson of Dallas, Texas, Leslie & Jan (Yawn) Werner of Houston, Texas, Shayna Hughes of Lubbock, Texas;
