In Loving Memory of Ronald Rodney Neal Wilkins "Papa Ron" (August 18, 1948 – October 4, 2024) With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, and friend, Ronald Rodney Neal Wilkins, affectionately known as "Papa Ron" by his grandchildren and children. He peacefully passed away on October 4th, 2024, at the age of 76 in Parkland, Washington. Born on August 18th, 1948, in Detroit, Michigan, to Reola Elizabeth "Mimi" Horne, Ron's life was a testament to resilience, love, and devotion. Ron graduated from Laughborn High School in DuPont, WA, and after serving his country as a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, he dedicated his life to helping others. A man who had overcome many challenges himself, Ron found his calling as a Substance Abuse Counselor for the Metropolitan Development Council, where he worked tirelessly to support those in their own journeys to recovery. In addition to his work as a counselor, Ron held various positions throughout his career, including roles at Suncoast Motion Picture Company, Wilson’s Leather, Kits, and Fort Lewis Transit, each of which reflected his strong work ethic and passion for life. In August 1986, Ron married Bevelyn Beachem at People’s Center Church in Tacoma, WA. Through this union, he became a loving father to three children—his biological daughter Dorothy Elizabeth Ashley Wilkins, and his stepchildren Duane and Aleah Cawthon. Ronald embraced his role as a father, always prioritizing his children’s happiness and well-being. An avid collector of trinkets and gadgets, Ron had a deep love for finding joy in the little things. His passion for collecting was mirrored in his dedication to lifelong learning. He pursued higher education later in life, attending Evergreen State College and later Pierce College, where he earned his Masters degree. His commitment to education was a reflection of his own journey of sobriety—30 years of strength, perseverance, and growth, which he used to inspire others in his community. Ron was not only a counselor but also a man of deep faith who believed in giving back to those who had supported him during his struggles and working to support others in need. He was a rock for many, always standing fast through the highs and lows of life, anchored by his faith and desire to make the world a better place for those around him. His legacy of kindness, compassion, and service will be remembered by all who knew him. A lifelong Seahawks fan, Ron’s love for his team was a staple in his life, and "Papa Ron" could often be found sharing this passion with his family. His loyalty and dedication extended far beyond the football field, defining every aspect of his life. He is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Reola Elizabeth "Mimi" Horne, Rev. Edward Horne (Step-Father) and other loved ones who have welcomed him into the next chapter of his spiritual journey. Ron is survived by his children Dorothy Wilkins, Duane Cawthon, and Aleah Cawthon, along with his five cherished grandchildren; Jasmine Jones, Hunter Allen, Zion Jenkins, Samuel (Elijah) Wilkins, Savannah Wilkins, and Mark (ManMan) Crain, who were the light of his life. He also leaves behind many dear friends who will forever remember the impact he made on their lives.
