Sharon Burleson Obituary

Sharon “Sherrone” Elaine Burleson September 15, 1953 - April 26, 2021 Sharon Elaine Burleson was born on September 15, 1953 to Samuel and Jessie Burleson (née Clay) in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Sharon grew up in a full house, as she was one of eleven children. Her love for her community, Black causes, and politics was cultivated early in life and she frequently attended civil rights marches in Oklahoma City with her older siblings. She graduated from Douglass High School in 1971 and went on to attend Oklahoma State University, where she received a bachelor degree in Political Science. Sharon was multi-faceted and worked in many different fields in her life, including: Federal Emergency Management, Insurance, and Government/Politics. Sharon moved from Oklahoma City, OK to Seattle, WA in 2015. Her move was motivated by the recent birth of her first grandchild. She adored her grandchildren and was a constant fixture in their lives, spoiling them every chance she could. Sharon was intelligent, perceptive, ahead of her time. She raised her only child Ebony Rose Frazier (née Martin) to value her agency and all things Black. Her legacy and love for education, community, and activism lives on through Ebony.   Sharon was preceded in death by her parents Samuel and Jessie Burleson, brothers Junior Burleson, Barney Godwin, Eddie Burleson, and sister Julene Burleson. She is survived by her daughter Ebony Rose Frazier (Kenyatta Frazier) of Seattle, WA, her grandchildren Lennox and Naeema, and siblings Sandra Pickens, Brenda Burleson, Beverly Harbert, Frances Burleson, and I.G. Godwin, Clay Paul Burleson, as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
